Hello Java customers! We are happy to announce the latest October 2024 patch & security update release for the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK. Download and install the binaries today.

Microsoft Build of OpenJDK specific updates

OpenJDK21

  • Removed calls to undocumented Windows APIs (NtCreateKeyedEvent, NtReleaseKeyedEvent, NtWaitForKeyedEvent).
  • Backport of JDK-8334475: UnsafeIntrinsicsTest.java#ZGenerationalDebug assert(!assert_on_failure) failed: Has low-order bits set.

OpenJDK17

  • Removed calls to undocumented Windows APIs (NtCreateKeyedEvent, NtReleaseKeyedEvent, NtWaitForKeyedEvent).

OpenJDK11

  • Enables Hotspot to use processors across all Windows processor groups on Windows 11/Windows Server 2022 and later.

We continue to provide support on Azure and internally at Microsoft for OpenJDK 8 binaries of Eclipse Temurin built by the Eclipse Adoptium project. To facilitate its usage, we ship container images of OpenJDK 8 on top of CBL-Mariner and Ubuntu. Refer to our documentation. OpenJDK 8 (8u432b6)

The empty set contains nothing. This sounds really silly, but it's actually really nice. The Windows Runtime has a policy that if a method returns a collection (such as an IVector ), and the method produces no results, then it should return an empty collection, rather than a null reference . That way, consumers can just iterate over the collection without having to deal with a null test. For example, suppose you have a method Widget:: Get­Associated­Doodads which returns an IVectorView<Doodad> representing the Doodad objects that have been associated with a Widget object. If no Doodad s have been associated with the Widget , then it should return an empty vector, not a null pointer.
